For many cultures and families, a woman’s role is to cook, to clean, to take care of the children and satisfy the demands of their husbands. But for numerous years women have been fighting for equality in this so called â€Å"Man’s World†. The Women’s Rights Movement started in 1848, and though it has come a long way there is still gender inequality in this world today. It seems as though the pursuit to stop gender inequality has slowed down and has leveled off since the 1990’s (Ridgeway, 2013). Today women are allowed to vote, able to get an education, work in the same place as men, but we are still treated differently. Men do not understand the struggle it is for a woman who have to work harder to prove she is good enough, and be taken†¦show more content†¦Things would be a lot different if women ran more companies. In Joann S. Lublin article, â€Å"How Companies Are Different When More Women Are in Power†, she states, â€Å"Chang e is coming slowly, but corner offices are looking a bit less like exclusive boys’ clubs lately.† The increase of female executives has also increased the number of female employees. Lublin interviews a woman by the name of Liz Gottung who is the head of human resources for Kimberly Clark. Gottung states, â€Å"When it’s only one or two women, our voices can get lost.† When you have women supporting each other, we become a force that you cannot ignore. But even when a woman is put in an authoritative position, she is still likely to be seen as less authoritative in comparison to a male (Ridgeway, 2013). I believe this is why men try and keep the male to female ratio obsolete. As a female who works in a professional environment, I experience gender inequality face to face. When I had first got hired at my place of employment I was interviewed by two women, I remember thinking to myself how great it was going to be to have female superiors in this job, unlike my last one where I was surrounded by men. A few months had gone by and I was really starting to get the hang of how things worked. I started asking my manager for more hours, and started to learn different sides of the job, not just the one that I was hired for.
